Our First Garage Sale

As Mandy and I prepare for the biggest move of our lives, we are faced with the necessity of simplifying our lifestyles. We will be downsizing from a 3 bedroom apartment to a 1 bedroom apartment when we move to Seattle, so, in the words of my former senior pastor, we are forced to "purge and pack." We have been selling off our stuff at record pace and it is really only the beginning. Right now we have 80 books listed for sale on half.com and by the time the dust settles that number will probably push 100. We are also trying to sell our piano and will soon be selling my truck so we will only have one vehicle in Seattle. The biggest thing we will be doing in this area is to host our very first garage sale. A friend of ours is allowing us to use her garage in June to try and rid ourselves of our stuff, while making a little money to offset moving expenses.

This is a scary time for us in the midst of this change, but it is also very exciting. Mandy and I eagerly await the chance to start over and live our lives differently this time around. We desire to be simple people who care for God, others, and the environment, and show it through our actions.

  1. I would have a hard time selling my books

  2. That is where I am really struggling too. I have already listed some of my books, but I just brought home probably 40 more that I am going to try to sell. It pains me...but I need to.

  3. I understand this. It is like getting rid of an old friend, one that you have had for ages.
I understand the fear factor you are feeling now as well. My prayers are with you and Mandy as you both face the road God has mapped out for you.
I believe though, that your strength in God and the dependence you both have in God and each other will see you realizing far more blessings than you could imagine. I cannot wait to see how it all comes together for you. Blessings, my friend.

  4. Hey Jason... Hope the moving stuff is going well. Where is your apartment in Seattle? I love some of the neighborhoods there... Such rich, beautiful buildings.

  5. We don't have an apartment yet. We will fly out there in a couple weeks to sign a lease. We are planning to live in a neighborhood just north of downtown called Queen Anne. It is close to the school, still has the feel of downtown, is quaint and fun, but is better priced than actually living downtown. Very spendy downtown.

  7. Good luck. We have sorta begun that process ourselves, but wow! how difficult the task! Having said that, however :-), if there's anything you think I could use, I'm not adverse to taking :-)
